Egoic Consciousness The name “ego” is generally applied to the spirit of man clothed in a vehicle called the Causal body, and built of the matter of the higher mental world. This part of the constitution of man was called the “shining augoeides” by the Greeks. All the capacities which are acquired during successive incarnations21 in the mental, astral and physical worlds are stored in the Causal body.22 These are the “treasure in Heaven where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt”23 referred to by our Lord.
