meaning to very many people; secondly, it was coined to replace “ long-distance Clairvoyance,” and also “ Spirit-body-travelling,” words which have the merit of existence and simplicity ; thirdly, it does not make a distinction between long-distance Clairvoyance, ‘ Mental-body- travelling,” or Phone-voyance, probably be- cause the man who coined it was of a clair- voyant, and did not know from personal experience that there zs a difference, which I hope to point out later on; and, lastly, and most particularly, the word “Telesthesia” in no way implies either pfyszcaZ contact or the means of physical contact, as does Phone- voyance. Granting that it is applicable to long- distance Clairvoyance and also to Mental-body- travelling, in neither of which there is any physical contact, it certainly cannot apply to Phone-voyance ; for even if the telephone be noé actually seen through, and I do not assert that it is, it is at least in actual use so far as contact, voice, and ear are concerned. ‘There- fore, with all due deference to my critics, I shall use the word “ Phone-voyance” when otherwise it would be necessary to say ‘“ whilst conversing with Mr. Jones, through the National Telephone Company’s system of electrical installation for the conveyance of
