44 PREFACE.
At any rate, that is what appeared to happen when on one occasion ‘I ’ lifted a bed with two people in it, and spoke to them in the ‘direct’ voice. Physically I have not strength in my- self to raise a small child.”
The people in bed were four miles away from Mr, Turvey’s physical body.
Equally interesting and suggestive is Mr. Turvey’s account of ordinary long-distance clairvoyance. He says—
“In plain, long-distance, clairvoyance I appear to see through a tunnel which is cut through all intervening physical objects, such as towns, forests and mountains. This tunnel seems to terminate just inside Mr. Brown's study, for instance; but I can on/y see what is actually ¢#ere, and am not able to walk about the house, nor to use any other faculty but that of sight. In fact, it is almost like extended physical sight on a flat earth void of obstacles. (This tunnel also applies to ¢zme as well as to space.) ”
In mental-body-travelling the “1” is actually on the spot, and sees, and hears, and smells, and uses all the senses of the “Me” which remains at home; although, if physical force be needed, this is as a rule borrowed from a third party.
