PREFACE. 31 facts. If we cannot explain it away, or dis- prove it, or invalidate its accuracy in any way, what are we going to do about it? How can we account for these things? If on the accepted orthodox dogmas of materialistic science they cannot be accounted for, then the time has come to recognize that these dogmas want readjusting, so as to account for the facts. An unexplained, and apparently inexplicable, fact often contains within itself the key to a new truth. What is the truth to which “ phone- voyance ” is the key? That is a question not to be discussed in a preface, which is an introduction to the book, and not a solution of its problems. If the reader be convinced by reading the book that these events, visions, previsions, etc., actually did happen as vouched for, then the question arises whether the faculties of Mr. Turvey are peculiar to Mr. Turvey, or whether he has but stumbled upon a fact which suggests that such faculties are inherent, but latent, in the whole human race. This brings us up to the ques- tion, who is Mr. Turvey?
