Spans are clear spans between supports. For total span, add two bearing lengths. 4. Provide a minimum bearing length of 89 mm (31⁄2 in.). 5. Top edge of beam assumed to be fully laterally supported by joists. 6. Supported length means half the sum of the joist spans on both sides of the beam. 7. Straight interpolation may be used for other supported lengths
