therein contained may come under its correct heading. For instance, I have a letter from the Hon. Mrs. H. Ellis vouching for a “ spirit Visitant” and also for a fulfilled prophecy. In order to keep my experiences classified in groups, I have printed her letter in two parts, each under its own heading. In no case have I added or altered a word; and, in the case of “extracts,” that which is omitted has no bearing on the /fac¢s, and the extract is called an extract and not a letter.
All the names mentioned are those of real persons, living witnesses, actual writers of the letters. Where I have been unable to obtain permission to print the name in full I have been compelled to use initials only. When one remembers the torrents of abuse to which people who put their names to any “impos- sible” thing are subjected, one can only wonder that I have been able to obtain any full names at all; and even now, in order to protect my witnesses, I do not print their addresses.
I have, however, submitted the original letters and the type-written MS. to four gentlemen, who have kindly certified that the letters are genuine, and that the copies (for the printer) are correct. As these gentlemen are only concerned with checking the letters,
