On February 1, 1903, he wrote me: “It is astonishing to me that you have hit on one of the most important facts of my life.”

“Mr. ” of London writes, on February 4,1903: “You write to me about a dark man with a black moustache, slightly curly hair, age forty-two, greatly worried at present about some new plans he is preparing for his business, he writes with a black pen-holder, on a leather- topped writing-table with turned legs, and two drawers. his gentleman is connected with me.”
On February 9, 1903, Dr. H D called for a “test,” and I said to him: “You have been using a large book bound in green, as your chief reference whilst writing a treatise, or article; there isa pile of manuscript on your writing-table, the object of which is to convey knowledge of a scientific description. Further- more, a young lady (of whom I gave him a good description) has been helping you with the work in hand.”
On February 29, in reply to my asking him to give me a letter confirming the above, he writes as follows—
