I may say that a// my Visitants have been recognized, a fact which makes them very real to me, and renders Telepathy inadequate as an explanation.
It was the custom of the Bournemouth Society of Spiritualists, when I was an officer there, to give demonstrations of Clairvoyance after the service was over. Those members of the congregation who cared to do so were invited to remain for ‘an after-circle.” This circle was about twenty-five feet in diameter and fully lighted by gas lamps. I mention this in order that the reader will better understand the words, “I announced from the platform.” I used to announce the “Spirit” Visitants from the platform instead of during the “ after-circle,” for two reasons—first, to show that I was not “seeing” the “spirit” at the time; and secondly, in case the person for whom the spirit came did not remain for the “after-circle.” Much of the mental phenomena way be Telepathy, although I doubt if it is, for I consider it to be an over-stretched theory; but for a long time I accepted it, rather than admit an after-life. However, the events recorded in this chapter, particularly the last one, in which the Visitant was not recognized until two-and-a-half years had passed, have at least given me something
